For premium tee times — particularly the Old Course at St Andrews, Muirfield, and Turnberry Ailsa — we recommend booking 12-18 months in advance. The Old Course ballot for peak summer months fills very early, and our preferred allocation is limited. For off-peak travel (October–April), lead times can be shorter, but we always recommend reaching out as early as possible to secure your ideal itinerary.

Yes — within reason. The Old Course operates on a daily ballot system, which means no-one can guarantee a specific tee time 100% of the time. What G Golf Ireland can do is submit ballot applications on your behalf, leverage our preferred partner relationships with St Andrews Links Trust, and build contingency rounds into your itinerary so that if the ballot doesn’t deliver on a particular day, you have outstanding golf confirmed regardless. We have an excellent track record of securing Old Course access for our clients. From time to time we also partner with authorised providers who offer guaranteed tee time packages.

May through September offers the best combination of weather, daylight, and course conditions. June and July are particularly special — long evenings mean you can finish a round at 9pm in full daylight. August and September bring more settled weather and slightly smaller crowds. October can be extraordinary — autumn colours, quieter courses, and dramatic skies. We play Scotland year-round and have delivered memorable itineraries in every season.

Edinburgh and Glasgow are the main gateways. Edinburgh is best for east coast itineraries (St Andrews is 90 minutes away). Glasgow works best for west coast tours (Turnberry and Troon are an hour south). Inverness is ideal if you’re starting a Highland itinerary. Most major US cities now have direct transatlantic routes to Edinburgh and Glasgow. We coordinate all airport transfers as part of your G Golf package.

Absolutely — and many of our clients do exactly this. The standard route is Ireland first (west coast Kerry, Donegal, or Portrush), then a short flight to Edinburgh or Glasgow for Scotland. At the major courses — St Andrews, Carnoustie, Kingsbarns, Royal Dornoch — caddies are strongly recommended and in some cases required for certain tee times. A great Scottish caddie is worth every penny: local course knowledge, club selection advice, and the kind of stories and context that make a round genuinely memorable. G Golf arranges caddies at every relevant course as part of your package. Standard caddie fees range from £60-£120 per round plus a customary tip.

Scotland is one of the world’s great travel destinations well beyond the golf. Edinburgh is a spectacular city with extraordinary history, culture, and food. The Highlands offer some of Europe’s most dramatic scenery, castle ruins, whisky distilleries, and outdoor experiences. St Andrews itself is a beautiful medieval university town.
